Across New York City, this week ran quieter than usual on most measures. There were 4,481 public order reports against a normal 7,911, 4,150 road hazard reports against 5,639, and 264 weather alerts against 663. Hazmat was the one category above normal, at 103 reports against 88. Some reports arrive a day or two late, so the most recent days may still fill in.
The exceptions were local. Three neighbouring parts of Laurelton, Queens, logged 15, 14 and 10 vandalism reports, where the previous eight weeks saw none to about 0.4 a week, and nearby Hollis had 8 public order reports against about 0.6. In the Bronx, Parkchester logged 15 vandalism reports against about 1 a week normally, with 6 more close by.
Vehicle theft reports were down citywide, 932 against a normal 1,394. Yet 78 were logged within 400 metres of one point in East New York, 57 of them in weekday daytime, and Fresh Meadows had 5 against about 0.4 a week.
Sunday night into Monday brought a run of transit notices. The MTA posted 6 train delays and skipped stops near Pelham Bay Park, attributed to a structure fire, along with 1 train delays near 207 St and Manhattan bus detours. ABC7 and CBS New York reported a fire on an Upper East Side high-rise balcony that injured two firefighters.
