A day shaped by fire, from a fatal Bronx battery fire to Queens calls

In Queens, Laurelton vandalism reports stayed far above normal, the story followed longest today with 40 updates.

25 units under fire-damage vacate orders

Fire was the thread through today. Local news reports one person was killed in a lithium-ion battery fire in the Bronx, and a fifth newsroom report at 5:25 PM said the same. Nine housing department vacate orders for fire damage cover 25 units in the Bronx and Queens, unchanged since they posted at midnight.

Fire dispatch logged structure fire calls across the city. They include Archer Avenue and 89th Avenue in Jamaica, the 400 block of East 164th Street in Highbridge, and West 131st Street in Harlem. These dispatch feeds are new, with no normal yet to compare against.

In Queens, three neighbouring Laurelton pockets hold at 15, 14 and 10 vandalism reports this week, against none to about 0.4 a week over the past eight weeks. Jackson Heights holds at 23 public order reports this week against about 3 a week, with smaller rises in Flushing, Hollis and Astoria.

On the Brooklyn Bridge, a 12:51 PM Notify NYC protest alert and a 12:59 PM news report of protesters blocking traffic remain the only information.
