Closures from Big Sur to Salinas, and heat in the hills east of town

Satellites picked up heat in the Gabilan Range as a coastal flood advisory stayed up for Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast.

144.1 MW strongest satellite heat reading in the period

The last 30 days in Monterey County were mostly about the roads. Caltrans kept one-way traffic control on Highway 1 in Big Sur at Rocky Creek Bridge, Point Sur and Mud Creek, and posted overnight closures of US 101 off-ramps in Salinas at Airport Boulevard and East Market Street, and at Oak Avenue. On the Peninsula, Highway 68 had alternating-lane closures, one-way control at El Toro Creek Bridge, and a closed eastbound off-ramp at Toro Park.

Inland, satellites detected heat in the Gabilan Range east of Salinas, and no new heat had shown up since about 1:59 PM Tuesday. The strongest satellite reading in the period was 144.1 MW. Across the line in San Benito County, CHP logged five vegetation fire reports along Highway 25 in eleven minutes Tuesday evening.

On the coast, a National Weather Service coastal flood advisory covered Northern and Southern Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast. In Carmel Valley Village, KSBW reported an apartment fire that damaged a building and businesses. Near Lockwood, three PG&E outages stayed listed at 68, 48 and 3 customers.

There is no normal yet for Caltrans highway conditions, beach advisories, river gauges or surf buoys, so these numbers can't be called up or down.
