Big Sur road control, a coastal flood advisory and fire in the Gabilan hills

Over the last 30 days, the most-followed threads came late: road work and closures, a coastal advisory, and fire calls east of Salinas and along Highway 25.

144.1 MW strongest satellite heat detection, east of Salinas

The longest thread in the last 30 days was on Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast. Caltrans listed one-way traffic control at Rocky Creek Bridge, Point Sur and Mud Creek, with 40 updates. A National Weather Service Coastal Flood Advisory for Northern and Southern Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast followed close behind, with 36 updates.

On Tuesday, attention moved inland. Satellite heat detections came in near 36.612, -121.244, with the strongest at 144.1 MW. A fire in the Gabilan Range east of Salinas drew 22 updates, and three CHP vegetation fire reports along Highway 25 north of Hollister had no follow-up for about nine hours.

Road work filled in the rest. Caltrans listed the eastbound Highway 68 off-ramp at Toro Park as fully closed, night lane closures on Highway 68 from Pacific Grove to El Toro Creek, and US 101 off-ramp closures in Salinas and Greenfield. Caltrans highway conditions are a new feed for Lantern, so there is no normal yet to compare against.

PG&E also listed outages near Lockwood at 68, 48 and 3 customers, plus planned outages for 18 customers in Sand City and smaller groups in Carmel-by-the-Sea and north of Salinas.
