The story of Los Angeles · September 29 to October 29
A near-normal month citywide, with road hazards piling up in pockets
Citywide counts held near normal, while road hazard reports jumped in Downtown LA, Reseda, Mid-Wilshire and San Pedro in the final week.
52 road hazard reports near Downtown LA this week
In the last 30 days, Los Angeles ran close to its usual pace. There were 12,160 road hazard reports against a normal 11,897, and 513 weather alerts against 517. Vandalism reports came in lower, at 59,355 against a usual 64,137.
The change came in the final week, and in a handful of places. Downtown LA logged 52 road hazard reports this week, against about 9 in a usual week. Reseda had 14 against about 1, Mid-Wilshire 11 against about 0.3, and San Pedro 9 against about 0.4.
The month's closing days also kept the freeway feeds busy. CHP logged a run of roadside fire reports on the 105 in Watts and the 110 in South LA, a thread followed through 40 updates. Caltrans kept overnight closures listed on the 101 in Encino and downtown and on SR-47 in San Pedro.
CHP logged two fatal collisions in that stretch. One was on the northbound 57 at Brea Canyon Road near Diamond Bar, where a SigAlert stayed listed for more than eight hours. The other was at Avalon Boulevard and 122nd Street in Watts.
